Army pursues better protection equipment for helos

Article Abstract:

Aircraft survivability equipment programs made by BAE Systems, namely the Advanced Threat Infrared Countermeasures System (ATIRCMS) and the Common Missile Warning System (CMWS) have been accelerated after an AH-64D Apache helicopter was downed with small arms and a missile near Baghdad. Lt. Gen. Richard Cody, the Army's deputy chief of staff for operations stated that redirected funds from the cancelled RAH-66 Comanche helicopter would be used for the same in an effort to reduce the risk to aviation crews supporting the infantry.
