Article Abstract:

There is no clearly established career development path for credit managers, but it is commonly accepted among professionals that the credit manager should join a trade association and should learn about cash management. Continuing education courses in credit-financial management are available through the National Association of Credit Management. Barton Brands Ltd VP for finance Norman Goldstein says that persons in credit need to gain experience outside of credit in order to get promoted. Goldstein suggests a likely progression from cash manager to assistant treasurer. Goldstein's success in treasury management is described, along with the career progression of Ball Corp director of credit and cash management Gordon Stagge.
