Sid goes European

Article Abstract:

The Mercury European Privatization trust has performed poorly but could be a useful long-term investment. This trust could beenfit from economic recovery in Europe and the US market is riskier than the European market. European markets will benefit from a devaluation in Spain, France and Germany, though they will be affected if interest rates are raised. The trust includes any company with involvement in Europe, so is broadly based, and the fund manager is well respected.

Latin America rebounds

Article Abstract:

Latin American funds performed well to May 14 1999, and have since fallen back but are forecast to recover in 2000. A number of Latin American economies are still affected by recession, but economic growth in the region looks set to recover in 2000. Commodity prices are rising and this should help Latin America. Colombia has not performed as well as hoped, but the Mexican economy has performed especially well, and Chile is benefiting from the Asian economic recovery.

Plugging into multimedia

Article Abstract:

First Media Investment Trust is a new investment trust to be launched by Rapahel Zorn Hemsley, and will specialize in media companies. The trust does not plan to invest directly in hardware firms, and aims to invest some 30% of the portfolio in shares that are unlisted. The placing is scheduled for the end of Jan 1996, and a sponsor has to be found since the investment manager is not permitted to take on the role of the sponsor as well.
