Skofin (Prague, Czech Republic), leasing company, increased its net profit by 31.3% to CEK 483 mil in 2000 compared to 1999. Skofin arranged a total of 35,646 new leasing contracts in 2000 compared to 34,000 contracts in 1999. The volume of the firm's newly arranged contracts increased to CEK 11.415 bil in 2000 compared to CEK 10.11 bil in 1999. Skofin's balance sum rose by 4.7% to CEK 18.1 bil in 2000 compared to 1999. Skofin, which is focused on the sales of Volkswagen, Skoda, Seat and Audi vehicles, was set up as a wholly-owned subsidiary of Volkswagen Financial Services in 1992. Skofin arranged more than 300,000 contracts in the eight years of its existence.

Ronal CR (Jicin, Czech Republic), car wheel manufacturer, wants to build a CEK 1.5 bil cast aluminium car wheel plant in Hradec Kralove, the Czech Republic, by 2002. The plant should employ more than 500 persons. The citizens of Hradec Kralove who do not agree with the construction want to set up a civic association against the construction in Apr 2001. Their protest is based on the alleged contradiction between the prepared construction and the territorial plan of Hradec Kralove. Ronal CR is a part of the concern Ronal (Luxembourg).
