So much to offer, so far to go

Article Abstract:

Bangladesh is not an appealing destination for foreign investors mostly because of its traditional image as a poor Third World country that is susceptible to natural disasters. The government has been trying to shake off this image through international advertising campaigns and by sending trade delegations to Asia, Europe and North America. These efforts are intended to inform the world about the considerable investment opportunities that the country can offer. Indeed, Bangladesh has many features that should appeal to foreign investors. It has substantial natural oil and gas reserves and has one of the most liberal investment programs in the Asia-Pacific. However, despite these favorable factors, Bangladesh remains a difficult place to do business. Aside from being poverty-stricken and prone to natural calamities, the country is plagued by other traditional problems such as slow government decision-making, weak legal system, poor infrastructure and political instability.
