Spin-off tax status reappraised

Article Abstract:

Such a spin-off and severance payments that are categorized as golden parachute payments will be subject to taxation if an acquisition is made within two years of the spin-off. Analysts suggest caution over large stock transfer movements because the IRS can make private letter rulings public without identification.
