Stanley Leisure

Article Abstract:

Stanley Leisure is involved in casinos and betting shops, and the company ranks fourth among retail British bookmakers. The company is investing in internet casinos and betting, and its main business does not appear to have been affected by the development of online betting. The company has acquired three casinos in London, England, which are performing better than expected. Stanley Leisure's pre-tax profit is forecast at 32 million pounds sterling for 2000 by Wise Speke.

One to bet on

Article Abstract:

Ladbroke was initially affected by the launch of the UK National Lottery run by Camelot, but the popularity of scratchcards has waned, while retail gambling is improving. The company should benefit from a reduction in betting tax in the UK and a change in the law which means that amusement machines can be placed in betting shops. The group's hotel interests are also performing well, and added 14 managed hotels in 1995 with 20 new hotels planned for 1996.
