Article Abstract:

The Asian syndicated loan market totalled $89 billion in 1996 and accounted for 73% of all capital raised in Asia that year, making syndicated loans the most widely accepted capital-raising product in the region. In the 1st half of 1997, volume on the Asian syndicated loan market totalled $47.6 billion. Syndicated loans are popular as they are readily accepted by the banking industry and can be completed quickly.

Margins fall as banks compete for market share

Article Abstract:

Volume in the Asian syndicated loan market in the period of Jan through Oct 1996 totalled $73 billion, an increase of 18% over the same period of 1996. The pricing of syndicated loans declined a due to enhanced liquidity, increased competition, higher borrowing volumes and lower interest rates, all of which contributed to tight prices and aggressive bidding for issues.

Asian FRN and FRCD markets

Article Abstract:

The Asian floating rate notes (FRN) and floating rate certificates of deposit (FRCD) market is highly sophisticated and is a very attractive alternative capital-raising venue for both issuers and investors. There were 243 FRN and FRCD transactions on the Asian market in 1996, accounting for a volume of $20.5 billion.
