Exchange-traded derivatives markets grow

Article Abstract:

Asia has seen an increased use of derivatives and a concomitant increase in the number of securities exchanges dealing in derivatives. Indexed futures contracts have been introduced in South Korea and Malaysia, and exchanges in India, Taiwan, Thailand and the Philippines are expected to soon introduce their own indexed futures contracts. In the area of derivatives, most Asian investors prefer stock warrants.

Equity funding for infrastructure(Asian Capital Markets)

Article Abstract:

The Hong Kong Stock Exchange (HKSE) has been an integral factor in securing financing for infrastructure projects in mainland China. China's ninth five-year plan that runs from 1996-2000 is focused on building infrastructure to promote economic development. China's ambitious plans likely will require $300 billion in financing. The HKSE helps match up investors with individual infrastructure projects.

The Australian Stock Exchange (ASX) was fueled by share buyback and cash takeover increases in 1996, and future development will rely on new supplies of equities. These include expansion of property trusts, infrastructure and utilities, telecommunications and insurance sectors. In 1997, the ASX had almost 1,200 companies listed and accounted for 1.5% of global equity market capitalization.
