Taiwan

Article Abstract:

The Taiwan capital markets are dominated by Taiwan Stock Exchange, which was created in 1962, that had daily volume of $390.2 billion in 1995. The TSE is more liquid than the Hong Kong and South Korean stock exchanges, which had daily volumes of $106.9 billion and $185.7 billion, respectively. The TSE's 1995 turnover ratio of 227.84% makes it arguably the busiest secondary stock exchange in the world; New York and Hong Kong's ratios are 58.99% and 37.08%, respectively. The over-the-counter market saw its liquidity and market size increase in 1996

Bond market: funding opportunities for foreign issuers

Article Abstract:

The Taiwanese bond market provides a low-cost source of capital for foreign corporate issuers. The lower costs of the Taiwanese bond market are the result of economic fundamentals such as low inflation and low interest rates; the market's structure and demand, including competition among underwriters; and the government deregulation of supranational bonds.
