Tax calculation software puts planning before paying

Article Abstract:

Tax software can be used to gather corporate financial data and perform tax calculations, allowing corporate treasurers to determine the effect of various tax reporting options on cash flow. Moreover, a computerized tax system makes compliance with federal and state tax regulations easier. Computer software assists tax planning personnel by improving staff utilization, accelerating the analysis of tax options, and answering basic tax questions quickly. A buyer's directory of corporate tax software products for microcomputers describes some of the capabilities and prices of computer programs available from: Targeted Software Inc., CLR Fast-Tax, BNA Software, Ernst and Whinney, and TAXCALC.

IBM's PS-2, OS-2: nothing treasurers should rush out to buy

Article Abstract:

Only large users of IBM mainframes need to consider utilizing the PS-2 family of computers to improve retrieval and analysis of main business information system data. The PS-2 group, including models 30, 50, 60, and 80, does not represent a replacement for the PC family in the foreseeable future. PS-2 internal design precludes use of standard peripherals in all but the model 30, giving user access to only a limited number of expansion boards and requiring conversion of all program disks to a 3.5-inch floppy format. IBM PC clones such as Compaq will remain viable alternatives, as Compaq continues its strategy of supporting the predominant industry standard at a lower price than IBM.

Decision support systems move treasurers beyond flipping a coin

Article Abstract:

Decision support systems (DSS) are a relatively new kind of decision-oriented software that can help treasurers make the best possible decisions. DSS software packages use advanced statistical and mathematical techniques. They enable users to accomplish such functions as building decision matrices and performing sensitivity analyses, constructing linear programming problems, or constructing decision trees with superior graphics.
