Technological and product-market experience and the success of new product introductions in the pharmaceutical industry

Article Abstract:

The growth and development of a firm requires technological knowledge, the ability to combine knowledge elements into valuable new product, and the complementary assets that facilitate the manufacturing, sales, and distribution of those products. It is proposed that new products will be more successful when a firm possesses the appropriate stocks of technological and product-market experience.

Beyond local search: boundary-spanning, exploration, and impact in the optical disk industry

Article Abstract:

Issues discussed concern organizational learning and how boundary- spanning exploration impacts knowledge acquisition and technological innovation in the optical disk industry. Two types of exploration are local, which increases similar technology already within a firm, and 'radical,' exploration that utilizes distant technology from outside of the company.

Determinants of invention commercialization: an empirical examination of academically sourced inventions

Article Abstract:

The characteristics of technological inventions that affect their commercialization are examined. It is revealed that invention commercialization is positively associated with its scope and pioneering nature. A dataset of Massachusetts Institute of Technology-licensed patents is used for this study.
