The Challenges of Accounting - Does Tricker Meet Them?

Article Abstract:

The Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales was established with the main objective of providing professionals financial advice and other services to the highest standards. Several challenges face the profession to meet this objective including adequate training at all levels, identifying client needs, improving the image of the profession and defining personal and professional standards. To improve the present achievement, some suggestions are offered. A chief executive, as compared to the Director General proposed in the Tricker Report, should be appointed as the focus for communication for the organization. In lieu of adopting special interest groups as proposed by the Tricker Report, discussion groups within the District Society should be further developed to educate and train members in special interests. Communication should continue along the lines of soliciting opinions from the silent members of the Institute, but also should expand to include discussion at the District Level to explore the issues. Members and professional firms should be allowed to advertise, under regulation of professional standard for integrity, in order to increase public understanding.
