The Final Gower

Article Abstract:

The proposal by Professor Jim Gower of the United Kingdom designed to protect investors in the financial community has received very little comment on the part of United Kingdom government. Gower proposes self- regulation under surveillance by the Department of Trade and Industry. Government control would be minimal with fewer than twenty regulatory agencies which must conform with certain criteria. The Council for the Securities Industry would act on behalf of the self-regulatory agencies in dealing with the Department of Trade and Industry. Registration would be required with members of recognized agencies automatically registered.

What's in a name?

Article Abstract:

A review of local governments in the UK may allow the resurgence of traditional place names which were abandoned in 1974. There were 84 counties before 1974, and they were reduced to a total of 66 after recombination. Related concerns for local councils include national parks, protection of the countryside and unitary county services.
