The big fix

Article Abstract:

A survey of several Canadian firms reveals their readiness to the Year 2000 computer problem. Each of the selected firms visited has started their conversions as early as 1997. A printing firm for example, has set up its own Y2K-compliant team to look into all the firms' non-compliant software. The result is a cash outlay of $55,000 just to convert its general ledger, receivables and payables into a Y2K-compliant system. In the process, outsourcing also proves to be of great help during the conversion period.

The introduction of such technologies changed the buying strategies of professionals, particularly of accountants. Many accountants are slowly realizing the importance of long-term automation planning in light of the rapid pace of technological innovation in the computer sector.
