The early bird argument

Article Abstract:

UK personal equity plans (Peps) offer tax advantages and investors often buy into them shortly before the end of the tax year when companies are making especially intense marketing efforts. Investors may be able to get better deals if they invest earlier on in the tax year. They may be investing in a poorer market climate if the investment is left until late. There could be a change in rules governing Peps in 1997 which could mean that investors should buy into Peps at the start of the tax year, prior to the election.

Indian givers

Article Abstract:

Holders of United Kingdom personal equity plans (Peps) have attracted competition among companies seeking to benefit from the transfer market. Peps can be transferred for a number of reasons such as reorganization to boost income, simple consolidation, or to seek a fund manager with a better performance. Peps can be moved to a single plan with different managers . Discretionary managed Peps are offered by some investment advisers. Investment advisers may also be able to manage Pep portfolios without transfers.
