The commercial revolution

Article Abstract:

'E-commerce' is a fashionable term in 1998 and investors see the concept as attractive, as is shown by a rise in Dialog's stock price, when the company announced involvement in e-commerce. The internet could account for 15% of world retail sales in five years from 1998, but the business to business market account for much of the growth rather than sales to households. The year 2000 computer transition problem and European monetary union are taking up IT resources, but more energy will be put into e-commerce when they have been solved.

Dixons to sell stake in Freeserve internet service provider

Article Abstract:

Dixons could sell a stake in Freeserve, which would help to value the free internet service. There is no service that can be compared with Freeserve to help value it. Freeserve possesses a captive subscriber base and aims to become a portal site. There is a debate as to whether Freeserve should be valued according to its subscriber base, or its advertising revenues. Sales of European internet service providers have tended to involve those that serve businesses, not consumers, which makes the valuation of Freeserve more difficult.
