The influence of a back support harness on spinal forces during sheep shearing

Article Abstract:

Researches indicate that sheep shearing can be classified as a very heavy work where the spine and hips are flexed for long periods of time, while handling awkward and heavy loads, expending high amounts of energy. The results of this study demonstrate the production of high levels of compressive and sheer forces within the spine of shearers during the three shearing tasks studied and that the use of a back support can substantially reduces the forces.

Pushing and pulling: Personal mechanics influence spine loadsp

Article Abstract:

Ergonomics interventions into pushing and pulling heavy objects are replacing lifting and carrying heavy objects, as manual material handling has become a major risk factor for injury. Pushing and pulling of heavy objects in a wheeled container would enable transportation of heavier weights and create a more efficient work setting but it is important to know the proper pushing and pulling techniques as they have a large influence on back loading.

The influence of occupation on lumbar sagittal motion and posture

Article Abstract:

A study was conducted to determine whether sheep shearers have clinically hypothesized adaptive postural and sagittal mobility parameters of the lumbar spine and pelvis. A stepwise linear regression of all participants indicated that the occupation is the predominant influence on motion and posture followed by age.
