The ironies of vehicle feedback in car design

Article Abstract:

The Brunel University driving simulator is used to replicate modern trends and changes in automotive design to measure resultant driver situational awareness (SA) using a probe-recall method. The results suggest that in spite of the large changes in vehicle feedback presented in the simulator, and the measured changes in SA, drivers were hardly aware of these changes, hence suggesting that ergonomics play an important role within the domain of contemporary vehicle design.

Driver behavior with adaptive cruise control

Article Abstract:

Reports on the evaluation of adaptive cruise control (ACC) have an effect upon the psychology of driving, where drivers were asked to drive in a driving simulator under manual and ACC condition. The results show locus of control and trust were unaffected by ACC, situation awareness, workload and stress were reduced by ACC.

Effect of button location on driver's visual behavior and safety perception

Article Abstract:

A study was conducted to analyze the effect of push button location and auditory feedback on drivers' visual time off road and safety perception when driving in a real traffic situation. Results for the button located close to the gear stick with the highest eccentricity, produced a short time off road.
