The manager's guide to Islamic banking

Article Abstract:

International banking managers should possess a basic knowledge of banks and banking in Islamic countries for reasons that include the growing economic, political, and cultural integration of the world; the large and increasing Islamic population represents a majority in over 35 countries; and the large cash balances in Islamic countries available for global investment. The most important principle of Islamic banking is the Koranic prohibition of the paying or receiving of interest. Another important aspect of Islamic banking is that while paying and receiving interest is forbidden, profits are not. Islamic banks offer a wide range of services for a fee.
