The next generation

Article Abstract:

Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales's (ICAEW's) emphasis on training the next generation of chartered accountants is not merely to secure the long-term future for the profession, but it is also a matter of pressing business needs. The Institute wants to make it an attractive and realistic proposition for a wider cross-section of employers, going through the process of updating the Associate of the Institute of Chartered Accountants (ACA) to ensure that it meets market needs, structure the training to be more flexible, and streamline the training authorization process.

Big Bang: The legacy

Article Abstract:

A lasting legacy of the 'Big Bang' in 1986 is that it demonstrated how deregulation and market-led solutions could improve both the regulatory environment and conditions for business. A principles-based approach can pose a challenge to regulators and compliance officers, but the Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales's new Financial Services Faculty, launched in January 2007, would influence developments and provide practical, targeted professional support to the industry.

Marrying values

Article Abstract:

The integration of ICAEW and CIPFA would mean bringing together the values of public services with the efficiencies and value-for-money criteria of the private sector. As the government is increasingly relying heavily on private sector advisors an institute spanning both the private and public sectors will be in strong position to ensure that knowledge transfer of best practice between private and public sectors has a better chance of finding root.
