The persistence of distance? The impact of technology on MNE motivations for foreign investment

Article Abstract:

The way in which variation in the costs of distance, caused by technological developments, affect the rationale for foreign investment, the one aspect of international activity, is examined. How the lowered costs of distance, brought about by information technology, might affect the motivations of firms to go overseas is discussed.

Liability of foreignness in global competition? financial service affiliates in the city of London

A theoretical framework that distinguishes between different types of advantages that determine the relative performance of MNEs is introduced. In what way the foreign financial service firms operating in the city of London do not suffer the liability of foreignness to the extent suggested by theory is examined.
