The strategy of control

Article Abstract:

Accounting control systems are useful in the development, execution and management of corporate plans. Diagnostic controls use plans as standards for the measurement of progress, interactive controls involve constant communication among all departments or organizational levels involved in a project, and boundary systems present employees with limits and standards which must be followed in the implementation of projects. Knowledge and use of these processes will provide accountants with strategic management tools which will benefit both their practice and the companies they work with.

Companies in convalescence

Article Abstract:

Due to the recession, there are many companies classified in the state of 'convalescence.' Companies in this state should be looking more at such variables as their cash flow rather than the traditional variables, such as book profits, to demonstrate the profitability of a company. Cash flow can help to determine if a firm's debt can be serviced. Also earnings before interest depreciation and taxes can be used as a better variable in deciding the health of a convalescing company.
