Article Abstract:

John R.V. Palmer was appointed Superintendent of Financial Institutions in Canada in late 1994. Prior to his appointment, Palmer occupied various posts in both the private and public sectors. Palmer believes that his primary role as superintendent will be to provide leadership in the face of the rapid changes in the Canadian financial sector. Meanwhile, the Canadian financial sector lauded Palmer's appointment because of his strong links with the banking community.

The revaluation of assets as a signalling device: A theoretical and an empirical analysis

Article Abstract:

In some countries, firms can choose whether or not to report a revaluation in their financial statements. An analytical model of the signalling function of a revaluation decisions has been developed and tested. Accounting information has a significant influence on the beliefs of investors, banks and debt holders, even for firms not quoted ona stock exchange. Non-revaluation of assets can be an important signal of the future success of certain firms.

Theoretical prediction of noble gas containing anions FNgO(super -) (Ng = He, Ar, and Kr)

Article Abstract:

High-level ab initio calculations were used to calculate the structures and energies of the noble gas containing anions FNgO(super -) (Ng = He, Ar, and Kr). The results suggested possible experimental identification of the anionic species and even more related 'ionic compounds' under cryogenic conditions.
