The sweet side of biomarker discovery

Article Abstract:

The involvement of glycans in tumor progression can be used to diagnose, predict susceptibility and monitor cancer progression. Biomolecules can complement DNA and protein for early diagnosis of cancer with development of appropriate technologies for clinical translation but owing to its low detection limits, efficiency and rapid characterization capabilities, mass spectrometry remains popular technique for biomarker discovery.

The role of companion diagnostics in the development and use of mutation-targeted cancer therapies

Article Abstract:

Genetic differences distinguish cancer cells from normal cells and hence therapeutic advances are based on agents that specifically target the products of the genes that are mutated in cancer cells. Companion diagnostic tests that would help to identify patients who are most likely to benefit from these therapies and simplify the drug discovery process are described.
