The Chartered Institute of Public Finance and Accountancy, together with Price Waterhouse Associates Proprietary Ltd, offers a Tax Advisory Service which underscores the importance of getting professional aid in preparing for an audit. Other steps for authorities to take include appointment of a PAYE experienced authority representative, intensive study of information and figures provided for the PAYE and sufficient documentation on areas which had been previously penalized by PAYE.

CIPFA recommends new approach to depreciation

Article Abstract:

A different approach to depreciation has been proposed by the Capital Accounting Working Group of the CIPFA. Local councils setting aside an annual amount for building repairs and maintenance would no longer be required to calculate depreciation on operational buildings such as schools and libraries, providing the building had a useful economic life of at least 20 years. This would have significant practical benefits, including removing the necessity for separate building and building services depreciation schedules.
