The FTSE All-Share index shows the impact of the world economy, even excluding multinationals for a number of reasons, which are examined in detail. Investors have to select stock individually if they want insulation from world trends, but may be confined to utilities and retailers.

There is money to be made, but tread carefully

Article Abstract:

Investors considering buying into rights issues should not be carried away the strong potential returns because a few strongly performing stocks can push up the average for issues as a whole. There are also uncertainties relating to companies that issue equity, such as whether funds are to be invested profitably. The risk level involved is shown by the negative returns for 52 stocks in a sample. Returns should be high when risks are high, and some stocks may not offer good enough returns to compensate for the risks. Investors should proceed with caution.
