Three routes for target costing
Article Abstract:
Target costing projects have three alternative ways of pursuing their goals, namely total cost management (TCM), cost cutting and cost shifting. TCM can attain its goals by adopting the fundamental strategies of comprehensiveness, integration, flexibility, dynamic and long-term continuity. TCM can often take non-optimal directions and cause dysfunctional routes of cost cutting and cost shifting practices. The diversion may also occur due to weaknesses of cost improvement programs.
