Sensitizing experiences and fear acquisition: comment on Masataka (1993)

Article Abstract:

N. Masataka's assumption that squirrel monkeys that did not experience snake encounters were sensitized to the fear of snakes was erroneous. Masataka's experimental conditions did not validate his assumption that fear of snakes correlated with insects or insect-like features in insect-fed monkeys. Fearful exposure in insect-fed monkeys should have resulted in latent inhibition. Furthermore, sensitizing fear of snakes induced by exposure to insects cannot be correlated based on the experimental protocol that was adopted by Masataka and a more rigorous methodology should be developed to analyze fear psychology in animals.

Tim Burton

Article Abstract:

Tim Burton is the director of several movies, such as 'Edward Scissorhands,' 'Mars Attacks!' and the first two 'Batman' movies. Born into a middle class family in California, Burton developed an early interest in the televised pop landscape of horror movies, cartoons and sitcoms. Burton joined as an apprentice animator at Walt Disney Studios after taking a degree from the California Institute of the Arts in 1979. His restlessness with animation resulted in his feature debut 'Peewee's Big Adventure.' Subsequently in many other popular science fiction movies he used live action, settings and props.

Botanizing the Canadian Rockies

Article Abstract:

The Canadian Rockies are an ideal place for amateur botanists and plant enthusiasts to search for and identify wildflowers and plants. Beautiful alpine plants thrive in the high altitude and cool climate. Explorers can hike the rockies and escape the summer heat while educating themselves about North American flora. The peak blooming period is June and July, but a diversity of plants can be found throughout the summer.
