Toehold strategies, takeover laws and rival bidders

Article Abstract:

A study on tender offers suggests a complex interaction between toeholds and bids, even though no asymmetric information is present. In a tender offer, toeholds are legal pre-announcement purchases of shares in the open market by the bidding firm. The scenario is presented by a simple model that describes the bidder's optimal toehold acquisition strategy in an environment that is very similar to existing legal institutions. The model implies that no toeholds must be acquired if no competing bidders are anticipated.

Identifying corporate strategies

Article Abstract:

Many companies are changing their former images as enterprises that serve nondynamic markets, and are now assuming corporate images that project them as producers that serve dynamic consumer needs. These changing corporate identities require a redesign of identities to reflect these changes. Recent print advertisements of Anitec, for example, reflect its identity as a member of the International Paper Co and encourages ad readers to avail of the whole array of products supplied by the International Paper Co.

Article Abstract:

The Mug Shot imaging devices designed for the Polaroid Corp by Joan DeMaio and Jacqueline Wilkinson, students at the University of the Arts in Philadelphia, PA, won a gold award in the student work category of the 1992 I.D. Annual Design Review. The front of the two devices mimic the human face, while their backs have soft contours that correspond to the user's face. The designs were praised for their functional and aesthetic success.
