Total rebuild: reconstructing Iraq's banking system starts for scratch

Article Abstract:

The Iraq war has destroyed the financial network in the country. The implications of the currency fall, and the lack of banking facilities as an exchange point are highlighted. Plans to revive the economy and reinstate the banking conditions existing prior to Saddam's reign are discussed. The steps being taken by the international Banking communities and the progress thereon are also discussed.

Canadian banks want to fatten up to bring home the bacon

Article Abstract:

The big five Canadian banks are looking out for opportunities for bank mergers in the United States but are waiting for Ottawa to give them a green signal for merger. If the U.S. banks get bigger and bigger and the Canadian banks do nothing about it, then one day according to analysts, the U.S. banks will start swallowing the banks in Canada.

The largest contribution to mergers and acquisitions (M&A) activity is coming from the banking industry, though a weaker underwriting environment is exerting more dependability on advisory and other fees for the world's bankers. The survey of Global Finance lists 2004 year's best global banks.
