Traveling extra light; sales forces now can be armed with powerful and versatile computers

Article Abstract:

Sales representatives can now choose from a wide range of powerful portable computers to assist them in their jobs. At seven pounds or less, these versatile computers possess features normally reserved for desktop units such as high-speed microprocessors, crisp color displays, jumbo hard drives and other communications options. Some of the most significant recent advances in portable computer technology are better performance and increased storage, miniaturization, ergonomics, easy upgrading and presentation power.

A daunting task

Installing a system that integrates the sales force with the marketing department is a difficult process. The initial system-design stage involve the sales representatives, sales and marketing management and information resources. The system must ensure the sales force's effectivity while data collection must be secondary. Management must also be open to feedback from the sales personnel who would use the system.
