Article Abstract:

Charity is fast becoming a demanding business with increasing regulatory requirements that require high levels of reporting transparency equaling those expected from business corporations. This has increased dependency on professional advice though quite often finance directors of charities look to one another for advice and support, which is something that would not occur in the business sector.

The million pound boy's club

Article Abstract:

Fifteen finance directors (FDs) from different fields received more than 1 million pound sterling in salary and bonuses during their 2003 financial year. Of the 15 finance directors, five are ICAEW members, two are ICAS members, two are management accountants and one qualified with the ACCA, and five have no accountancy qualification.

Accountants are tightening their grip in the boardrooms of the FTSE 100 companies, with 24 chief executives holding an accountancy qualification. Survey reports indicate that 14 of the accountant CEOs earned over 1million pound during the 2004 financial year, an increase from 11 in last year's (2004) survey.
