UK bidding war amidst merger mania

Article Abstract:

The UK's biotech bidding war broken out, with at least two firms vying to take over the proteomics research firm Oxford GlycoSciences. The merger and acquisition developments are prompted by the prevalence of rock-bottom share prices that afflict biotech firms on both sides of the Atlantic.

GM giants pair up to do battle

The genetically modified (GM) crop business tycoons, Germany-based BASF and Monsanto have entered into a $1.5 billion deal to discover and develop second-generation of genetically modified crop that will provide increased yields and survive environmental hazards like drought and heat.

Europe responds to UK's GM field trials

Article Abstract:

Research institutions in UK studied 60-70 fields of each crop and divided each field into a GM (genetically modified) and non-GM section. UK trials have influence in Spain and Italy where the climate favors different crop varieties and agricultural methods.
