US consumers' socioeconomic characteristics and consumption of grain-based foods

Article Abstract:

A survey on US primary grocery shoppers in Oct 1995 revealed that less educated or lower income shoppers are likely to have smaller selections of grain-based foods. Moreover, households with male, lower income and less educated shoppers have poorer nutritional selections. These suggest the need to widen awareness of the advantages of a diet diverse in grain-based and whole-wheat foods among male, less educated, and lower income shoppers.
