Visual effects of the luminance surrounding a computer display

Article Abstract:

The effects of surround luminance levels upon the functions in younger and older adults are measured to determine recommended surround luminance levels. The result shows that the effects of the surround luminance within the tested range are not large, however, the lowest surround luminance levels should be avoided and that surround luminance levels at or slightly below that of the central task are preferred.

Notebook input devices put to the age test: The usability of trackpoint and touchpad for middle-aged adults

Article Abstract:

Touchpad and trackpoint input devices were examined with a view to understanding how far input devices integrated into computer notebooks are usable. It was observed that middle-aged users took longer to execute the different tasks as compared to younger users and as such ageing would be a central factor to consider when designing input devices.
