Webtop technology hasn't caught up with ideas

Article Abstract:

The technology for integrating the Web and the desktop is still not available. The incorporation of Web browsing in mainstream applications and operating systems enables online marketers to view more Web advertisements and marketing sites and receive messages even when not browsing the Web. Both the Microsoft Internet Explorer 4.0 and Netscape Communicator 4.0 have failed in this regard, although they both have integrated push technology and the capability to turn the desktop into Web pages. However, Microsoft will incorporate browsing and push in Windows 98.

Extranets emerge as next challenge for marketers

Article Abstract:

The next step after company intranets is the development of extranets or extended intranets where the suppliers and clients can access a company's intranet. Extranets can be important tools for marketers. Hence, marketing executives must be proactive and get themselves involved in the planning stage of extranets. Marketers can apply the same skills they have used in increasing visitors to their public Web sites in increasing traffic in extranets.

Will Netscape's browser info help or hinder?

Article Abstract:

Netscape Communications will make its Communicator Web browser's source code available for free to everyone on Mar 31, 1998. Developers will be able to take the browser and change it any way they want. Developers can then keep the changes, sell the changes, offer their changes for free or give them to Netscape for its next update of the 'official' version of the browser.
