What is a support vector machine?

Article Abstract:

Support vector machines (SVMs), a computer algorithm, is applied to an increasingly wide variety of biological applications, including classifying objects as diverse as protein and DNA sequences, microarray expression profiles and mass spectra. The SVMs have performed better than a variety of alternative methods for cancer classification from microarray expression profiles.

RNA editing is a process resulting in the synthesis of proteins that are not directly encoded in the genome. A number of adenosine-inosine editing sites found in mRNA sequences raise new questions about the biological significance of RNA editing.
