Whitney plan revised

Article Abstract:

Architectural and financial problems continue to hamper expansion plans for the Whitney Museum of American Art. Michael Graves's design using reddish granite to cover the 1966 Marcel Breuer creation elicited harsh criticisms from the art community. The expansion plan has been temporarily set aside due to funding difficulties for design implementation costing $37.5 million as of 1988. The design was revised and reduced by 24% in 1987, but critics remain displeased and rumors of hiring another architect abound. Complicating matters is the absence of the required approval for the project from the New York City Landmarks Preservation Committee.

The invisible hand of Doug Lloyd

Article Abstract:

Art director Doug Lloyd's work reflect his professionalism and artistry although the man himself prefers to remain unobtrusive and allow his collaborators to freely express their artistic inclinations. Sometimes described as a design chameleon, Lloyd's quiet, solitary and low-profile approach is considered an asset in the fashion business. It is the diverse images in a portfolio of a lifetime's work that speak for Lloyd's artistry.

Kurt Anderson: the radio host and novelist talks about his new role as editor of Colors

Article Abstract:

Kurt Anderson, novelist and radio host, has taken on a new role of editor for Colors, a bimonthly magazine, and shares his views about its relaunching. He states that Colors depicts a nothing-taken-for-granted ambition rather than other magazines that have become less risk-taking and more nervous and the idea to have a magazine with some resources and celebrity-free impact is what interests him.
