Silicon Graphics forgoes president's coattails

Silicon Graphics, Mountain View, CA, technology firm, was used by the federal government to publicise its technology policy in February 1993. The firm, which has a turnover of 867 million dollars a year, has taken a deliberately low-key approach and not tried to gain materially from the situation. The company was chosen by President Bill Clinton because of its reputation as a top technology firm, and the choice has resulted in the company being given a higher profile.

The need for a national group or network for media planners has motivated more than 30 senior advertising specialists to form the Information Technology Media Advisory Council. Membership is open to ad agency personnel with the rank of media supervisors or higher. The group's goals include information exchange to enrich and expand existing resources, act as a representative body, formulate research and reporting standards and encourage fair trade practices.
