Wolseley

Article Abstract:

Wolseley improved its performance in the second half of its 1995 to 1996 FY but the company faces difficult markets. Underlying sales rose by 7% in the 2nd half, up from 2% in the first half of this FY. French and Austrain markets are falt and the UK is not likely to show a recovery until 1997. US demand is stronger but results have been affected by unstable prices for lumber. The company has continued to invest in expansion and much of this has been from cash flow. The company's profit is forecast to rise by a tenth reaching 268 million pounds sterling in 1997, according to Williams de Broe.
