Workspace is benefiting from the strength of the United Kingdom real estate market and and increase in demand from medium and smaller companies seeking work space The group has 73 estates and uses flexible letting procedures which are attractive to smaller companies. Old sites are acquired and converted into small units with a wide variation in rental rates. The market contnues to be strong. There is also capital growth from real estate trading and development, though activity is low. Recession could bring problems for the company, but it would also benefit from demand from people made redundant and seeking to set up a business.

The company ranks among the 10 top United Kingdom consultancies, and is diversifying, with five operating businesses after a reorganization. These businesses are UK quantity surveying, FBA, a facilities management concern, Vector, geared to the transportation and aviation sectors, Marlin, involved in construction management, and Bucknall Asia Pacific, also a quantity surveyor.

Hambro Countrywide

Article Abstract:

Hambro Countrywide is the largest real estate agency in the UK, and saw a drop in house sales of 6.2% for 1st half 1995. The company acquired 300 estate agents for 1 pound sterling from Nationwide Building Society. The new agents deal in smaller homes with lower commission rates. The company's mortage valuation and endowment businesses have performed well, but the Hambro Countrywide's losses are forecast at 6.5 million pounds sterling for full-year 1995.
