Electronic coupons: a double-barreled sales promotion technique

Article Abstract:

Electronic coupon programs (ECP) will probably revolutionize sales promotion in the 1990s. ECPs allow the value of manufacturers' coupons to be automatically deducted from a customer's bill for eligible purchases after membership in the program has been proven. ECPs have the great advantage of enabling retailers to compile consumer databases while simultaneously providing marketers with a powerful method of sales promotion. Moreover, the dissatisfaction of some supermarket managers with ECP will probably change to enthusiastic support once they become more familiar with the program.

Accountability planning as a strategic tool for change

Article Abstract:

A data management project involving the University of Michigan's career planning and placement department's staff, taught them a great deal. They learned that it is worth spending time on the physical models and the process, and determining when to collect data and what kind of data to collect. They also learned that it is better to restrict the amount of data collected, and that they should be realistic about the resources, creativity and time necessary to conduct the project.

The new century

Article Abstract:

Many business analysts predict that the year 2000 computer bug has the potential of closing down businesses, crashing systems, and causing major confusions in the food and product industries. Businesses regard this as a major concern because they do not have the proper expertise in the old system languages to go back and reprogram old codes.
