A complete structural study of the coverage dependence of the bonding of thiophene on Cu(111)

Article Abstract:

The effect of coverage on the structure and bonding of thiophene within chemisorbed overlayers on Cu(111) is analyzed. Normal incidence X-ray standing wavefield absorption (NIXSW) and near-edge X-ray absorption fine structure spectroscopy (NEXAFS) reported a coverage-driven phase transition in which at low coverage the thiophene populates an atop site with an average orientation of 26 plus/minus 5 degree, and the molecule adsorbed at defect sites have shown Cu-S separation with less inclination to the surface.

Effects of substituents on the structure and bonding of thiophene on Cu(111)

Article Abstract:

Experiments were done using spectroscopy to study the structure and bonding of thiophene on Cu(111). The results provide quantitative information on how simple substituents affect the adsorption structure of the thiophene ring.
