Article Abstract:

Case IH of Racine, WI, and AGCO Corp of Duluth, GA, two of the biggest players in the farm equipment industry, have embarked on a series of acquisitions in 1998 intended to improve their lines of fertilizer sprayers and applicators. Case acquired Tyler Industries of Benson, MN, in Apr 1998 and Goodfield, IL-based DMI Inc in Sep 1998. AGCO began its own series of acquisitions with the Spra-Coupe line of ag sprayers from Bismarck, ND-based Melroe Co in Jul 1998 follwed by Minneapolis, MN-based Cargill Inc's Willmar brand of sprayers in Aug 1998

Article Abstract:

Several companies developed or improved software programs for geographic information system mapping in precision agriculture. Red Hen systems offers the new Soil Rx product for integrating field data to facilitate management information decisions. Another company, AGRIS Corp, added a spatial compositor and a map calculator for its AgLink program to help dealers create templates with specific fertility standards or nutrient removal maps.

Fine fertilizer for 50 years

Article Abstract:

Yazoo City, MS-based Mississippi Chemical Corp (MCC) was established after World War II at a time when a major food shortage and depleted nitrogen supplies threatened the country in 1948. By the 1990s, the company has built several manufacturing facilities for ammonia, ammonium nitrate, potash and phosphate. MCC has emerged as the country's leading producer of ammonium nitrate.
