A unified description of the spin-spin and spin-lattice relaxation rates applied to nitroxide spin labels in viscous liquids

Article Abstract:

The application of electron and nuclear spin relaxation theory has caused a seeming paradox to develop, even in the fast motion limit for nitroxide spin labels. Two well-resolved EPR lines are seen when using 15N nitroxide spin labels due to the interaction of the electron with the nitrogen nucleus. The spin-spin relaxation rates are related to the observed line widths. The results showed that by following the operator method of Abragam, both spin-lattice relaxation and spin-spin relaxation lead to theoretical predictions agreeing with experimental results could be developed.

Linear and nonlinear optical properties of macrocyclic trichromophore bundle with parallel-aligned dipole moment

Article Abstract:

The linear and nonlinear optical properties of macrocyclic trichromophore bundle (1) and a single chromophore standard are studied by ultraviolet (UV)-vis absorption, fluorescence, solvatochromic spectrometry and hyper-Rayleigh scattering (HRS). The hypsochromic shift and fluorescence quenching are consistent with the exciton theory and the enhanced solvatochromic shift is due to solvent mediation of electrostatic interactions among the chromophores in 1.

Single-Molecule microscopy studies of electric-field poling in chromophore-polymer composite materials

Article Abstract:

A single-molecule confocal microscopy study of electric-field poling in a chromophore-polymer composite material is presented. The observed single-molecule rational dynamics in the presence and absence of the electric field are analyzed to determine the change in rotational dynamics introduced by the presence of the poling field.
