Adsorption of zwitterionic drugs in oxidized cellulose from aqueous and water/alcohol solutions

Article Abstract:

Adsorption of zwitterionic drugs on samples of oxidized cellulose (OC) with various carboxyl contents and structure characteristics was investigated from aqueous and water/alcohol solutions. It was shown that different drug uptake occurs on the OC samples with similar exchange capacity but various structure characteristics, which could be explained by accessibility of carboxylic groups of OC, caused by decreased swelling of a sorbent in binary water/alcohol solutions.

Thermal stability of stearic acid-barium stearate Langmuir-Blodgett monolayers on plasma-oxidized silicon substrate probed by atomic force microscopy

Article Abstract:

A study was conducted to analyze the thermal desorption of Langmuir-Blodgett films of stearic acid/barium stearate deposited on oxygen plasma treated silicon surface. Atomic force microscopy was utilized to carry out the analysis. The temperature dependence was examined based on the activation state theory. Results indicated that the thermal desorption of the film is governed by two mechanisms, namely, the nucleation and growth of the holes.

Chemisorption and reaction of sulfur dioxide with oxidized and reduced ceria surfaces

Article Abstract:

Soft X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy and thermal desorption spectroscopy have been used to investigate the adsorption of SO2 on a highly oriented CoO2(111). It was found that reduced ceria is readily oxidized by SO2, producing ceria oxysulfide.
