Aggregation behavior of nitrophenoxy-tailed quaternary ammonium surfactants

Article Abstract:

Nitrophenoxy-tailed quaternary ammonium surfactants are synthesized and their self-assembling properties in aqueous solutions are analyzed by using various spectroscopic methods and dynamic light scattering. The shielding effect of the aromatic groups over the protons in the aliphatic chains has shown that the nitrophenoxy groups are partially inserted into the micelles and have faced many middle methylenes of the hydrophobic side chains.

Influence of pH on the aggregation morphology of a novel surfactant with single hydrocarbon chain and multi-amine headgroups

Article Abstract:

The synthesis of a novel single-chain surfactant with multi-amine headgroups, bis(amidoethyl-carbamoylethyl) octadecylamine (C18N3) is reported. The synthetic surfactant C18N3 with variation of sizes and morphologies in aqueous solution at different pH values might be used as a template in fabricating drug delivery, biosensors, and biomolecular devices.

The interplay of hydrophobic and electrostatic effects in the surfactant-induced aggregation/deaggregation of Chlorin p(super 6)

Article Abstract:

The aggregation/deaggregation of chlorin p(super 6) with the surfactants CTAB, SDS, and TX 100 are studied using absorption, florescence, and light scattering techniques. Surfactants with ionic as well as nonionic headgroups are found to be capable of inducing aggregation of chlorin p6 at submicellar concentrations.
