Alkylphosphonate modified aluminum oxide surfaces

Article Abstract:

The characterization of the properties of oxidized Al substrates and phosphonate self-assembled monolayers (SAMs) on Al substrates is presented. The results have shown that actylphosphonic acid (OP/Al) contains some residual carbon contamination, unlike octadecylphosphonic acid (ODP/Al) and decylphosphonic acid (DP/Al), and have given more evidence that OP forms a less dense film.

Vanadium oxides on aluminum oxide supports. 2. Structure, vibrational properties, and reducibility of V2O5 clusters on alpha-Al2O3(0001)

Article Abstract:

The structure, stability and vibrational properties of isolated V2O5 clusters on the Al2O3(0001) surface are investigated by density functional theory (DFT) and statistical thermodynamics. It is shown that small (V2O5) vanadium clusters on alpha-Al2O3(0001) are more difficult to reduce than the (001) V2O5 crystal surface, but significantly easier than thin films.

Effect of x-rays on the surface chemical state of Al2O3, V2O5, and aluminovanadate oxide

Article Abstract:

The surface composition of Al2O3, V2O5 and luminovanadate oxide, 'V-Al-O', is studied to reveal time-dependent irradiation damage of samples. The interaction of Mg K(sub alpha) radiation with Al2O3, V2O5 and V-Al-O causes modifications of the surface composition and eventually, of the metal oxidation state.
