Anchored metal-to-metal transfer chromophores in a mesoporous silicate sieve for visible-light activation of titanium centers

Article Abstract:

Assembly of organic-free bimetallic Ti-O-Cu(super I) and Ti-O-Sn(super II) MMCT moieties on mesoporous silicate surfaces with each metal in a preselected oxidation state is demonstrated. Activation of Ti centers by MMCT excitation of heterodinuclear moieties anchored on mesoporous silica surfaces offers opportunities for exploring demanding photochemical transformations previously limited to UV light.

Signal amplification in multichromophore luminescence-based sensors

Article Abstract:

A quantitative model describing the amplification effect in a luminescence-based sensor as a result of the energy transfer (RDET and EET) between donor and acceptor chromophores is presented. It is observed that an amplification effect not only increases the sensor sensitivity but also considerably improves the selectivity to the target vapors.

Photoactuation from a carbon nanotube-Nafion bilayer composite

Article Abstract:

A bilayer composite of single walled carbon nanotubes (SWNTs) deposited onto nafion, which exhibits substantial mechanical motion upon exposure to visible or near-infrared light, is reported. A measurable photocurrent is found that might cause increased polarization at the SWNT/Nafion interface, which might be responsible for the actuation.
